January Book Haul!

January has been the greatest month since July 2014! The back story is that I moved from Canada to Spain (hopefully temporarily) on July of last year and I couldn’t buy any English books since then… I know it’s crazy! People who know me know that I’m constantly buying books so it has been literal torture to not be able to get my hands on beautiful and soft books!

The pictures above are the physical books I got from Amazon. They are a little more expensive than usual since they’re being shipped from the UK and the conversion of currency plus international fees add a little more to the price. So if you know any book bargain shops like BookOutlet(dot)com from the UK or anywhere else that ships internationally for cheap or free, let me know!

GOH_CVR_FINALThe Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick

Premise: Timeless, beautiful, and haunting, spirals connect the four episodes of The Ghosts of Heaven, the mesmerizing new novel from Printz Award winner Marcus Sedgwick. They are there in prehistory, when a girl picks up a charred stick and makes the first written signs; there tens of centuries later, hiding in the treacherous waters of Golden Beck that take Anna, who people call a witch; there in the halls of a Long Island hospital at the beginning of the 20th century, where a mad poet watches the oceans and knows the horrors it hides; and there in the far future, as an astronaut faces his destiny on the first spaceship sent from earth to colonize another world. Each of the characters in these mysterious linked stories embarks on a journey of discovery and survival; carried forward through the spiral of time, none will return to the same place.

Why I got it: I saw some booktubers talking about it being on their most anticipated releases of 2015 and specifically January. The synopsis sounds freaking amazing and it’s said to be life-changing. Overhyped? We’ll figure it out! Plus, I saw it on Amazon on sale for 8 euros which is crazy CHEAP! Did I mention it’s the HARDCOVER? Glorious!

vicious-book-cover-v-e-schwabVicious by V.E. Schwab

Premise: Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

Why I got it: I actually wanted to read this book for the longest time but I never seemed to remember it when buying books. I heard everyone and their mothers rave about how good it is and I want to feel the feels, ya know what I mean? I will be reading this book VERY soon and probably upload a post about my mental breakdown.

cover31619-mediumCrown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Premise: From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie…and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Why I got it: Do I even need to address the reason why I bought this book? Throne of Glass was one of my favorite books of 2014 and I need me some more Celaena and Chaol and Dorian and swords and kings and everything from this series! I can’t wait for Heir of Fire to be released in paperback so it matches my other books!!

eBook Haul

12813630 Red-Rising-Pierce-Brown

I don’t usually get e-books unless the book is only available digitally or it’s on a ridiculously cheap sale. This month I saw a couple of pretty good deals on iBooks though, and I got them without even thinking about it! I have already read one of them and it’s The Coldest Girl In Coldtown which I uploaded a review of a couple of days ago.

The second book I got is Red Rising and I got it for only $2.99 in the Canadian iBooks Store! I’ve been wanting to read Red Rising for the longest time and now it’s in my iPad waiting for me.

If you want to follow my reading habits and know what I’m currently reading follow me on GoodReads and Twitter and like my Facebook Page!

    1. Haha I’m glad you can’t do that because IT’S MINE! 😛 If you like V.E. Schwab I got an ARC of the first 150 pages of A Darker Shade of Magic and I will be reviewing it this week. I’m beyond excited to read that!
